Starting rate is in accordance with the Labourer rate ($29.22/hour).
Upon completion of 1,800 hours of experience and all arena operations training the rate will increase to that of the Skilled Labourer ($30.70/hour) (In accordance with CUPE Local 210 Agreement)
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for August 5, 2025. Further details (including time and location) will be provided to candidates selected for interviews.
Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Facilities and Recreation, perform any combination of the following duties:
Duties
• Janitorial cleaning tasks, sweeping, mopping and washing floors, walls, sinks, washroom units, etc.
• Shoveling of snow to clear ice surface, building entrances/exits and parking lot pathways;
• Operate ice resurfacing machine and edger to maintain proper ice level, cleaning and smoothing ice surface;
• Install and maintain ice surface logos, lines etc by replacement paper or painting process;
• Observe changes in refrigeration plant operation readings and be capable of making necessary adjustments;
• Perform basic preventative repairs to electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical problems;
• Assist in the controlling of the public and users in the arena and other parts of the building for orderly movement;
• Reporting and cleaning up of acts of vandalism;
• Set up and dismantle equipment, materials and supplies for special events both summer and winter;
• Grass cutting and care, flower bed preparation and maintenance, ball/soccer field maintenance, garbage pickup;
• Perform other related duties.
Qualifications
• Grade 12 education;
• Applicant must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License, Class “G”, Class “DZ” preferred;
• Demonstrated ability in the use of hand and electrical tools;
• Demonstrated ability in electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry repairs;
• Demonstrated ability in the operation of commercial riding lawn mowers and zero-turn commercial riding lawn mowers;
• Demonstrated ability in the safe operation of ½ ton and ¾ ton trucks with a trailer;
• Must be able to do shift work as necessary;
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public;
• Demonstrated operation and knowledge of an Ice Resurfacer;
• ORFA Basic Refrigeration Certificate is an asset;
• ORFA Safe Ice Resurfacer Operation Certificate is an asset;
• ORFA Safe Refrigeration Plant Entry Certificate is an asset;
• Current and clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen;
• Current WHMIS Certificate.
