Reports To: Adult Day Program Manager
Start Date: Early 2026 (New Program Opening)
Employment Type: 2 Full-Time and 1 casual part time

About the Alzheimer Society of Cochrane-Timmins

The Alzheimer Society of Cochrane-Timmins is dedicated to supporting individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, along with their care partners, across the Cochrane and Temiskaming regions. Our Adult Day Programs provide a safe, engaging, and supportive environment that promotes independence, dignity, and social connection.

As we prepare to open a new Adult Day Program in Temiskaming Shores, we are seeking a compassionate and skilled Personal Support Worker (PSW) to join our team and play a key role in launching and delivering this essential community service.

Position Summary

The Personal Support Worker will provide high-quality care and support to participants attending the Adult Day Program. This role includes assisting with personal care, meal preparation, and planned activities, as well as maintaining a safe, welcoming, and stimulating environment for clients living with dementia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with arrival and departure routines, ensuring safe storage of personal items and medications

  • Help implement daily activity programs that encourage participation and engagement

  • Observe, record, and report participant behaviors, progress, and concerns

  • Work collaboratively within an inter-professional caregiving team

  • Maintain a clean and organized environment

  • Provide guidance and support to students and volunteers

  • Calmly and professionally respond to crisis situations

  • Collect and maintain program data for evaluation and reporting purposes

  • Provide assistance with personal care, mobility, and daily living activities

  • Support participants during meals, toileting, and medication reminders

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Personal Support Worker (PSW) program (approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in long-term care, community care, or day program settings

  • Experience working directly with individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias

  • Strong understanding of client-centered care philosophy

  • Demonstrated teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems

  • Certifications such as GPA, U-First, or DementiAbility are considered assets

  • Bilingual (English/French) strongly preferred

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle required

  • Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (within 2 months)
