The Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) supports the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services across the MICs Group of Health Services. Working under the direct supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technologist, the MLA is responsible for specimen collection, processing, data entry, and general laboratory support in compliance with established protocols and safety standards.
The MLA performs venipuncture, ECGs, and a variety of pre-analytical and clerical tasks, ensuring patient identification accuracy, specimen integrity, and confidentiality. This role contributes to the quality management system through careful documentation, inventory control, infection prevention, and adherence to laboratory and governmental regulations.
This is a Temporary Full-Time position (20-month contract)
Qualifications
- Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) through the Ontario Society of Medical Technologists
- Knowledge of laboratory terminology, infection control, and safety procedures
- Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office applications
- Superior time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation abilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Physical ability to perform lifting, bending, standing, and fine motor tasks
- Attention to detail with the ability to follow standardized procedures
- CPR certification and previous laboratory or healthcare experience considered assets
