VISION:

At the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA), we celebrate and honor the safety and healing of Indigenous Women and Girls as they take up their leadership roles in the family, community, provincially, nationally, and internationally for generations to come.


SCOPE: 

The Trauma-Informed Care Worker will provide supportive, culturally sensitive and wholistic services that provide a safe space for Indigenous women to address their trauma, particularly for those women who are survivors of human trafficking and family violence, who want to exit these violent situations. They will provide supportive services including a full range of cultural teachings, practices and ceremony that will assist Indigenous women with addressing recent and historical trauma that has an impact on their lives.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum degree and/or diploma in Counselling and/or the Social Sciences
  • Minimum 3 years’ previous experience working with women affected by trauma
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience advocating and supporting Indigenous women
  • A strong understanding of gendered violence from an integrated feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression perspective is required
  • Commitment to supporting sexually trafficked women and those affected by violence/trauma
  • Specialized training in trauma informed care
  • Proven work experience in crisis supports and ability to mediate conflict
  • Specialized knowledge of trauma, mental health, and substance abuse issues
  • Ability to work with client centered approach
  • Proven ability in case management and supportive counselling skills
  • Knowledge of gender-based analysis theory and methodology
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Strong organizational, project management and time management skills
  • Experience working on a collaborative team
  • Able to manage many conflicting priorities simultaneously, with the ability to prioritize
  • Strong connection to other social service providers within the community
  • Knowledge and working of not for profit Indigenous organizations
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as needed to provide crisis response to community members, which may include evenings and weekends and on-call (rotating schedule) overnight hours as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint,) and other computer software
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance.
  • Valid current vulnerable sector criminal records check, 1st Aid/CPR.
  • A cellular phone and internet access is required within this position
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
  • Ability/willingness to travel.
