Summer Student Beef Technician Assistant

OBRC-New Liskeard is accepting 3 applications for summer students to assist the Beef Technician and Ag Workers in the general care of the beef herd and in collection of pasture research data. Successful candidate(s) will assist with feeding, pasture management, cleaning pens, pressure washing, performing various manipulations including vaccination, hoof trimming, checking for health problems and treatments, lawn and grounds upkeep, making observations and gathering/ recording data.

Interaction and communication with technical and professional staff at Ontario Beef Research Centre-New Liskeard as well as with producers, agribusiness representatives and government specialists are a part of the job.

The successful candidate(s) must:

• have a background in, strong interest in or be studying in agricultural, environmental or other biological sciences relevant to the position
• have experience working with large animals or be willing to be trained
• have experience operating farm equipment or be willing to be trained
• be able to work well independently and in a team environment
• have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• be able to set priorities and to organize work effectively
• have sound judgment and critical thinking skills
• have the ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently with high accuracy
• have computer skills (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, Internet navigation)
• be willing to work flexible hours
• have the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25kg
• have a valid Class G Driver’s license
• be a post-secondary student (college or university who was or will be) enrolled in the winter or fall 2025 school semesters

Steel-toed safety boots are required at the workplace. Much of the work activity takes place outdoors. The student will be exposed to all weather conditions, rain, sunlight, heat, humidity, dust and pollen.

Contract length: 4 months

Pay: From $18.50 per hour
