Duties

• Responsible to support team members by assisting the residents with non-health care tasks
• Respond to call bells and assist with tasks such as providing blankets, getting items for the resident as requested and relay messages to the Personal Support Workers when required
• Assist with resident nutritional needs e.g. support residents in the dining room, distribute drinks and snacks, feed residents and assist with clearing tables and documenting intake
• Help facilitate and participate in the resident walking program and ROM
• Assist the Adjuvant staff with group activities
• Assist staff with transfers, porter residents within the Home and spend one-on-one time with residents
• Assist with putting away personal items for new admissions or when residents are transferred
• Ensure a clean and safe environment for the residents and staff; e.g. bed making, decluttering rooms and hallways, tidying residents’ closets and drawers, cleaning and disinfecting tub rooms and equipment, gathering and distributing laundry, cleaning and stocking supply and care carts
• Report to the Team Lead any observations, complaints, or concerns e.g. change in resident condition, agitation, falls, questions regarding care and altercations between residents
• Respect, support and comply with safe operating procedures and the use of protective equipment
• Required to comply with all current and relevant infection prevention and control practices
• Support the care team in providing safe resident-centered care
• Other duties associated with the residents as required

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education or equivalency
• Able to complete all required in-service education/training
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated patience and compassion and enjoy working with the elderly
• Ability to provide a variety of tasks that will enhance the care of our residents
• Willing to participate as a member of the healthcare team
• Willing to receive and follow through on direction from the Charge Nurse
• Ability to be tactful, respectful and courteous with residents, families and staff members
• Ability to ensure confidentiality of resident information
• Bilingual in English and French would be considered an asset
• Ability to work shift work and to be available on short notice
• Current and clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen required
• Ability to adhere to all infection prevention and control protocols and screening requirements
