Part Time - Permanent
Pay: $17.50/Hour
Schedule: 20 hours/week (days, evenings, weekends as needed)

The Museum of Northern History celebrates the spirit of Kirkland Lake through collection, conservation, research, education and exhibition. The Museum assumes many roles within the community largely encompassed by the collection, interpretation and display of artifacts important to Kirkland Lake's history. Our collection comprises more than 25,000 artifacts relating to Kirkland Lake and the surrounding area.

The Museum caters to the public as a main research location, events and activities venue and as a rental facility. The Museum is also an arts and culture hub of the Community through the exhibition of approximately 10 displays in our Gallery each year. Our Museum continuously strives to expand our Cultural and Social histories onsite through community partnerships, artifact preservation, exhibit creation and programming.

We are seeking a permanent part-time individual to fill the role of Museum Assistant. The Museum Assistant will play a key role in ensuring consistent day to day operations of the Museum. Reporting to the Museum Manager, they will assist with a variety of tasks ranging from administration of the retail store, planning and implementation of various program, events and fundraising efforts, and the promotion of Museum operations.

Responsibilities include:
- Greeting visitors, handling enquiries, providing tours, and performing general administrative and light housekeeping duties.
- Maintain retail store, including managing sales, stock, merchandising, managing consignments and general housekeeping duties.
- Assist with scheduling, development and organizing of programming, exhibitions, fundraising and events.
- Promote and facilitate museum programs and memberships.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:
- Hours are based on programming requirements and rentals, includes evening and weekend work.
- Ability to climb ladders, lift tables, artifacts, etc...
- Onsite office work, as well as occasional offsite programming

Qualifications:
- Secondary School Diploma
- Valid Driver's Licence, and access to a vehicle.
- Education or experience in hospitality, retail, business, education or history is considered an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment (multi-tasking)
- Motivated and creative, team player
- Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, and associated programs.
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity and work ethic.
