Medical Secretary/Receptionist
Full-Time (FT)
Pay Rate/Hours:  $20.00-$22.00/hr 40 hours per week
Location:  New Liskeard

Mino M’shki-ki Indigenous Health Team is part of an Indigenous Hub operated by the Temiskaming Native Women’s Support Group. Our Health Team is mandated to take a culturally-rooted approach informed by local Indigenous traditional knowledge, languages and cultural practices in its work with families and communities. A commitment to personal leadership, cultural competency and service excellence is a requirement of this position.

Primary Duties Include:
• Answer incoming telephone calls, emails and text messages in a timely, professional and polite manner.
• Greeting patients and visitors to the clinic and creating a welcoming atmosphere and positive first impression of the organization.
• Check in and check out patients, verify and update patient demographics and patient profile, scheduling follow-up appointments.
• Processing referrals to specialists and community service providers as needed.
• Confirm, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and follow-up with no shows.
• Maintain effective communication with staff and providers for clinic efficiency.
• Screen and redirect calls and messages to appropriate staff.
• Manage patient health records, request medical records, print, organize, sort, scan and fax records and documents ensuring privacy compliance.
• Protect patient’s right of confidentiality.
• Coordinating transportation for patients as needed.
• Order office supplies and maintain office inventory.

Qualifications:
• 1-3 years of secretarial experience in a health care setting
• Proficient in the use of computers
• Experience with EMR (PS Suites preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to work with the Indigenous population and sensitivity to Indigenous issues.
• Willingness to learn and accept diversity of Indigenous cultures and teachings.
• Must be able to multitask effectively. Excellent time management and organization skills.
• Understanding of basic healthcare terminology
• Demonstrated ability to interact with healthcare professionals and patients.
• Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Terms of Employment:
• Current satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
