Northern College is seeking a First Year Experience Advisor in our Advising department. The successful candidate will be well organized, have great written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, and be able to work as a team or independently.

Reporting to the Moosonee Campus Manager, the successful candidate will develop and implement tools to measure the progress of first year and first generation students on a course by course basis. Identify early intervention strategies with students and intervenes when necessary.

What you will be doing:

• Develop learning plans and plans/develops workshops tailored to students’ academic success, offer study skill workshops and other courses;
• Offer ongoing individualized, specialized and one on one support to students;
• Advise students of options and resources; and
• Track progress/grades and reports on these to sponsoring agencies.

What you will need to be considered:

• Two (2) year Community College diploma, or related/equivalent. Preferably in Social Work; and
• Up to four years of practical experience.

Please note this position qualifies under Northern College’s protocol for hiring in remote regions. Candidates with relevant experience and who do not meet the education requirements may be given consideration based on relevant equivalent qualifications.
