Position:        First Nation Representative Lead (Fort Albany)         Term:  Contract – Full Time

Department:  Child Welfare and Family Services                             Salary Range: TBD

Hours:            35 Hours per week                                                     Location:        Fort Albany

Summery

Fort Albany First Nation provides First Nation Representative support and advocacy to registered and affiliated Fort Albany First Nation members involved with Child Welfare agencies.

The intention of this position is to ensure that any and all notifications from Child Welfare agencies are responded to and addressed within the mandated timeframe. The First Nation Representative Lead will ensure that all members or affiliates of Fort Albany First Nation will have support and advocacy present or available when working with all Child Welfare agencies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The First Nation Representative Lead shall:

•     Consult with community representatives and the Band Council to identify community needs.

•     Determine priorities in consultation with community leaders and Child Welfare agency.

•     Develop and participate in prevention programs designed to address the identified needs of children, youth, and families in the community.

•     Respond to specific requests for service and/or program development by completion of a Service Implementation Plan.

•     Complete service reviews and track progress in meeting service plan objectives.

•     Facilitate and organize cultural revitalization activities involving both the elders and youth of the community.

•     Direct staff to provide appropriate family support programs and activities designed to strengthen parenting skills, reduce child/parent conflict, and contribute to improved family functioning.

•     Direct staff to provide one-to-one voluntary family support services where the need has been identified by plan of care or protection services in order to prevent children from going into care.

•     Refer families to community resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•               Bachelor of Social Work or Social Services Worker Diploma or willingness to attain.

•               Minimum of 3 years work experience with Child Welfare

•               A combination of direct experience working with families, groups and organizing community programs.

•               Ability to collaborate cooperatively with community leaders, members, and groups.

•               Must have experience in working directly with First Nations.

•               Ability to serve as a positive role model in the community.

•               Ability to speak Cree is an asset.

•               Good verbal and written communication skills.

•               Willingness to work flexible hours.

•               Willingness to travel.

•               Experience in writing proposals would be an asset.

•               Participation in Module training required.

•               Valid Class “G” Drivers licence

•               Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check
