SUMMARY:
The Cultural Worker supports the Cultural Coordinator in the planning, coordination, and delivery of culturally appropriate programs and services for children, youth, and families. This role focuses on promoting cultural identity, traditional knowledge, and family wellness through participation in cultural programming, land-based activities, and community engagement.
Working under the guidance of the Cultural Coordinator, the Cultural Worker helps facilitate Traditional Parenting Programs, Ceremonial Teachings, sharing circles, and Living off the Land activities. The Cultural Worker plays a key role in creating a welcoming, respectful, and culturally safe environment for participants.
The Cultural Worker also assists in supporting families by reinforcing wellness plans, encouraging participation in programs, and helping reduce barriers to access. This position contributes to strengthening family relationships, cultural connection, and overall community well-being.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist the Cultural Coordinator in planning, organizing, and delivering cultural and traditional programs, including parenting programs, land-based activities, ceremonies, and sharing circles.
· Support the facilitation of programs by preparing materials, setting up spaces, coordinating logistics, and ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
· Build positive, culturally safe relationships with children, youth, and families. Encourage participation and engagement in programs and community activities.
· Provide one-on-one and group support to families by reinforcing teachings related to parenting, cultural identity, and healthy lifestyles, under the direction of the Cultural Coordinator.
· Support clients in accessing programs and services by helping to reduce barriers such as transportation, scheduling, and communication.
· Participate in land-based activities and assist in delivering teachings related to traditional skills, cultural practices, and community values.
· Work collaboratively with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to support the delivery of authentic and culturally grounded programming.
· Maintain appropriate documentation of activities and client interactions as required, and report updates to the Cultural Coordinator in a timely manner.
· Assist with community outreach, program promotion, and engagement activities to increase awareness and participation.
· Attend team meetings, training sessions, and supervision meetings as required.
· Ensure all interactions and services are delivered in a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and respectful manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Social Services Diploma;
· Minimum Two (2) years in the Social Service Work field;
· Extensive Traditional and Cultural Knowledge
· Possess a valid Driver’s Licence with a clear driving record;
· Must provide a Criminal Record Check prior to employment;
· Must be willing and able to travel;
· Must be available to work flexible hours.
