Health and Social Services Manager

Position Overview
Beaverhouse First Nation is seeking a dedicated Health and Social Services Manager to lead the
development, implementation, and oversight of health and wellness initiatives within the
community. This role is responsible for program management, policy development, staff
supervision, and funding administration, ensuring that all health and social services align with
the needs of the community and applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain a culturally safe, positive, and supportive environment for clients and families
attending programs at office locations or on the land.
• Lead the development and implementation of health and wellness initiatives for
Beaverhouse First Nation and its communities.
• Provide recommendations and assistance in developing general health department and
band policies for the Band Manager’s review and approval.
• Supervise day-to-day activities of the health department and ensure staff compliance
with HR policies and procedures.
• Support and mentor staff, encouraging progressive movement toward departmental
objectives.
• Investigate complaints related to health staff, clients, and community members in
collaboration with the Band Manager.
• Assign tasks to program staff and oversee event calendars to ensure efficient workflow.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and employee records, as well as sensitive
health department documents.
• Research and develop health-related programs and activities that address community
health needs.
• Work closely with health and social services staff to ensure all budget reports are
submitted accurately and on time.
• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities while building relationships with First
Nations, government agencies, funders, and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with reporting procedures as outlined in funding agreements.
• Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training designated staff members.
• Organize and participate in regular case management and staff meetings to stay
informed about program updates and new developments.
• Ensure staff records and program documentation are accurately maintained in the
electronic data system.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the health department and community
initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
• Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Health Services, Social Services or
a related field, combined with supervisory experience in health or social services.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with
community members, staff, and external partners.
• Experience in budget management and financial oversight, including compliance with
funding agreements.
• Strong leadership skills, with experience in supervising and mentoring a team.
• Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills to manage sensitive situations with
discretion and professionalism.
Assets:
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite, TEAMS and other related office programs.
• Knowledge of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) regulations and funding processes, as
well as Federal and Provincial regulations relating to First Nations health and social
services.
• Understanding of case management principles, including privacy regulations and client centered service delivery.
• Ability to liaise with government agencies, funding bodies, and community partners to
support program sustainability and growth.
• Valid Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Valid First AID and CPR.
